Balance

“YOU HAVE TO make sure that stays on her at all times. If it comes off, she won’t be grounded to the mortal plane.” Lucian’s voice trickles to my ears, pulling me from a weird state of calm.

I remember being scared as hell as Zade disappeared, and I found myself in a world of nothingness, but that’s it. I don’t know how long I was on another plane by myself, but it’s long enough for me to lose my shit.

After basically crying myself into oblivion, my being kind of just shut off. Until now.

I want to know what the hell really happened and if I actually did get lost in a weird spiritual plane. If only I could gather enough strength to open my eyes. It feels like it’s been years since I’ve seen any of my devils, and all I want to do is jump on them and smother them with my love. Maybe let them bury their faces between my boobs. I’m sure they’d prefer me to smother them with those instead.

“Maybe I should be the one to take Zade to his kingdom,” Andre says, his husky voice remaining low as if he’s afraid of speaking too loudly.

“You’re really going to be a bitch ass about this? Kase and Dante thought it would be better if she woke up to you instead of me.” Hot fingers touch my forehead and comb my hair away from my face. I can feel Lucian’s presence hovering over me.

“They just worry that you won’t treat her as delicately as they want her to be taken care of right now. You tend to be rough, Lucian. She has been through a lot.” Andre touches my hand, the familiarity of his skin against mine sending my heart racing. “If you remember to be gentle, considerate, and not an asshole, I think everything will be okay. You’re better at this sort of thing. I’m still learning. Zade would prefer me to help him anyways.”

I wait for a second, trying to decide if I want to argue and beg Andre to stay with me or if I want to give in to his need to help Zade through his transition. He’s a bit right about Lucian. But he’s wrong that his roughness bothers me. Sure, it annoys me, but there are far worse things in this universe than dealing with a jerk. He’s not so bad lately anyway.

“I guess we could just fucking ask her what she wants. I see you’re awake, Ray. Don’t think you can get away with eavesdropping on our conversation.” Lucian pets my cheek, and my eyelids darken as he leans in close. “Do I need to kiss you to get your sleepy ass to pull yourself from your darkness to face me? I will gladly take some of it off you. It’s as intoxicating as the light of your soul.”

Andre growls. “Do not mess with her soul right now, Lucian. It is fragile. You know she struggles to stay present in the Mortal Realm.
